BMW Motorrad September 2014 Sales

With much attribution going towards its R1200GS adventure tourer, BMW has again reported a positive monthly sales report.

BMW Motorrad reports that 9,991 motorcycles and maxi scooters were sold in September 2014 compared to 9,264 in September 2013, showing a 7.8-percent increase.

More importantly, though, is that worldwide sales through September have reached an all-time high; for the first nine months of 2014, BMW Motorrad sold 100,217 units compared to 93,154 units in the same period of 2013. This shows a 7.6-percent increase.

Heiner Faust, BMW Motorrad Head of Sales and Marketing, says “For the first time in the history of BMW Motorrad we have supplied more than 100,000 vehicles to our customers in the first nine months of a year. This is an increase in sales of 7.6% as compared to the equivalent period last year.”

Regarding regions, Germany is the leader with a market share of just under 25 percent (17,068 units sold). The motorcycle manufacturer’s homeland is followed by the USA, Italy, France and the UK, respectively.

BMW Motorrad says it intends to remain on course for growth in the upcoming season with new models. Three of those models were unveiled earlier this month at the INTERMOT motorcycle show in Cologne, Germany – the R 1200 R, the R 1200 RS and the revised S 1000 RR.

BMW says “The two water-cooled boxer models and the new supersports bike were a success with motorshow visitors, of whom there were more than 200,000. Two more new models will be presented at the international EICMA motorshow in Milan at the beginning of November.

In other BMW Motorrad news, the Bavarian motorcycle manufacturer recently won four awards from UK’s most respected motorcycle publication, MCN.

“We are very pleased to have been named Best Manufacturer of the Year as well as winning first place with the BMW R 1200 GS Adventure, the R 1200 RT and the R nineT,” Faust says.
