The sixth round of AMA Pro Motocross championship was held at the iconic “Fourth of July” weekend venue – Red Bud in Buchanan, Mich. Ken Roczen continued what may be one of the most impressive winning streaks since James Stewart and Ricky Carmichael’s undefeated seasons, winning 11 out of the last 12 Moto’s in the 450 class. In the 250 class, Cooper Webb is proving he’s the real deal indoors and out; securing his second overall of the season with 1-1 Moto score.

The opening 450 Moto  began with Justin Bogle aboard Geico Honda CRF450 grabbing the holeshot, but his lead didn’t last long. Bogle was quickly passed by the Autotrader Monster Energy JGR MX Yamaha’s Justin Barcia, but that wasn’t the end of the lead changes. Ken Roczen aboard his Soaring Eagle Jimmy Johns RCH Suzuki RMZ450 did what he’s done best all year; he sprinted to the front and controled the pace. Roczen secured the lead on lap one and never looked back.

Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Eli Tomac ended up playing a game of cat and mouse with Barcia.  After passing Barcia for second Tomac stalled the bike late in the race almost allowing Barcia to retake the position.

Soaring Eagle Jimmy Johns RCH Suzuki’s Broc Tickle, a Michigan native, proved his Muddy Creek results weren’t a fluke. He fought hard and secured fourth in moto one.

One of the more impressive rides on the day come from Marvin Musquin. The Red Bull KTM SX-F 450 pilot battled from outside the top 10 to secure fifth in the moto. The rough technical track really allowed the Frenchman’s skills to shine.

The second Moto began very similarly. Bogle managed to earn off another holeshot to lead the pack around the first turn. But Tomac quickly worked his way around Bogle and took over the lead.

Tomac’s time upfront was short lived; he elected to not jump LaRocco’s leap, which gave Roczen the perfect opportunity to steal the lead. Roczen had battled his way through several fellow Suzuki riders in the opening laps before catching and passing Bogle and Tomac. Roczen’s blistering pace allowed him to immediately open up a gap on the rest of the field, when he crossed the checkers he built up more than a 30-second gap on Eli Tomac.

Bogle’s time in third ended quickly. Broc Tickle who was leading a five-man battle, managed to pass Bogle. Once Tickle passed Bogle, the rest of five-man pack would eventually do the same. Barcia tried to catch Tickle, but came up just short; he would finish fourth in the Moto behind Tickle. Tickle and Barcia traded Moto scores on the day, 3-4 and 4-3.

Blake Baggett of the Yoshimura Suzuki race team had an incredible second Moto ride. He fought hard to make his way through the pack and take fifth in Moto two.

The overall scores were Roczen 1-1, Tomac 2-2, Tickle 4-3, Barcia 3-4, Musquin 5-6.
