3 days of Jerez MotoGP Testing for Aprilia RS-GP Team
Aprilia RS-GP

The Aprilia Racing Team Gresini team began some winter testing at the Spanish Jerez de la Frontera track. The Aprilia team’s three day stint, which began November 24, will allow the Aprilia Racing Team Gresini RS-GP pilots Alvaro Baustista, Stefan Bradl, and test rider Mike Di Meglio to get some much needed seat time with their respective V4 machines.

With the regulation changes of 2016 in play – Michelin tires and spec electronics – the Aprilia team has set its sights on becoming acclimated with the new systems at play. Aprilia is currently running the 2015 RS-GP bike while it awaits the 2016 prototype, which is expected to make its debut at the 2016 Sepang MotoGP tests.

Both riders seem optimistic, although the focus has been working with the Michelin tires. Here is what Alvaro Bautista had to say: “On these first two days we focused on the new tires, trying to gain familiarity with them and figure out how to adjust my riding style. Today we tried some new solutions on the front, making a few improvements although there is still a lot of work to do. Unlike at Valencia, here we found less grip at the rear so we are also working on this aspect.”

Fellow Aprilia RS-GP team rider Stefan Bradl appears to have echoed those feelings but didn’t seem to experience the loss of grip in the rear that Baustista did: “Today we worked a lot on the tires, both testing the new options on the front and assessing some fork solutions to increase the feeling. There were some improvements, small steps forward in the right direction, and I hope that the information we are collecting will help Michelin with their development process. I also tried the new electronics package without any problems. Tomorrow we’ll be working in that area.”
