The 2015 Moto3 Championship headed to San Marino over the weekend, round 13 taking place at Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli.

The resurfaced 2.63-mile technical circuit containing 16 corners is now a memorable one for Enea Bastianini, who earned his first-ever Moto3 victory before a home crowd.

Gresini Racing Team Moto3’s Bastianini, who earned the Misano Moto3 win during his 31st GP start, was joined on the podium by Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Miguel Oliveira and Ongetta-Rivacold’s Niccolo Antonelli.

Due to his victory, Bastianini closed within 55 points on Moto3 Championship leader Danny Kent, who finished sixth at Misano MotoGP.

2015 Misano Moto3 Results – Recap

When Misano Moto3 began, Bastianini was one of five riders who vied for the top spot. But he came out on top after a daring pass at turn 11. He held on to finish just 0.037 of a second ahead of Oliveira, who earned his fourth podium of 2015 Moto3. During Misano Moto3, Oliveira, who joins Leopard Racing in Moto2 next season, was able to ride with a new KTM frame and chassis.

Antonelli recovered from a crash on Saturday to earn third – his third podium of 2015 Moto3 – 0.345 of a second behind Bastianini. Rounding out the top five were Sky Racing Team VR46 KTM’s Romano Fenati (-0.584 of a second) and Oliveira’s teammate Brad Binder (-0.637).

Leopard Racing’s Moto3 championship points leader Kent (-8.0 seconds) was at the back of the lead group mid way through the race, but was forced to give up a position after exceeding track limits at turn six a number of times. Unfortunately for the Brit the nearest rider was four seconds back and he had to slow to let them pass, ending any chance he had of a podium as he eventually crossed the line in sixth.

Rounding out the top 10 were Alexis Masbou (SAXOPRINT RTG), Francesco Bagnaia (Mapfre Team Mahindra), Isaac Viñales (RBA Racing Team) and Phillip Oettl (Schedl GP Racing).

Scotsman John McPhee (SAXOPRINT RTG) recovered from 26th on the grid to finish in 19th. There was also a five second penalty applied to Maria Herrera for exceeding track limits although it did not affect her position of 24th, MotoGP reports.

Efren Vazquez (Leopard Racing) crashed out of the race while battling in the leading group, and there were also falls for Zulfahmi Khairuddin, Tatsuki Suzuki, Remy Gardner, Jules Danilo and Juanfran Guevara. Guevara crashed on the last lap and made contact with his teammate Martin, who somehow stayed upright to take the last championship point in 15th, MotoGP reports.

Both Estrella Galicia 0,0 riders Fabio Quartararo and Jorge Navarro were forced to miss the race after crashing in practice on Friday being declared unfit, MotoGP reports.

Following Misano Moto3, Kent now has 234 points with five rounds remaining, 55 ahead of Bastianini. Fenati is third, 95 behind Kent.

The Moto3 season now breaks for two weeks ahead of the Aragon Grand Prix in Spain on September 27.
