For GEICO Honda rider Malcolm Stewart, the 250cc East/West Shootout at the Monster Energy Cup Supercross Finals this weekend at Sam Boyd Stadium will be a lot like a race from his amateur days.
In this special event, the West Series rider will compete against the best 250 racers in Supercross, including GEICO Honda teammates R.J. Hampshire and Matt Bisceglia. But the East and West series have already completed their seasons in Supercross, so there are no points standings about which to worry.
“Everybody is going to have fun, the riders, the teams, the fans,” Stewart said. “This weekend is relaxing.”
Stewart finished seventh in the West Series standings, winning in Oakland, Calif., and scoring podium finishes in Phoenix and Houston. He’d love to win another Supercross race, but the goal is to have a good time in Las Vegas.
“A good weekend would be to go out with a win,” Stewart said. “The reality is this is going to be more like a fun weekend because there are no points. It’ll be fun to ride against the East guys, and Vegas is always one of those fun races where you just kick back and have fun.
“Everybody ends up riding better than what they are because there’s no pressure. That’s the cool part about this weekend.”
