Turning his focus from a top-five finish in San Diego to the upcoming AMA Monster Energy Supercross 450SX race in Arlington, GEICO Honda rider Eli Tomac is pushing forward in his hard-fought charge to the front of the class.
“San Diego’s main didn’t go the way I had hoped but that’s already behind me,” Tomac said. “I’ve moved on and I’m working towards a podium finish in Arlington Saturday.
“Last year I didn’t get the finish I wanted in Arlington. How I’ve been riding this season though, I don’t see why this year’s race won’t end with a much better result. Mid-pack finishes don’t get the overall job done at this level.”
With six of 17 races in the books, Tomac is determined to remain in title contention. Only 27 points behind title leader Ryan Dungey, Tomac still has his sights firmly set on being the next 450SX champion.
“Things have been going really well overall so far this season,” Tomac said. “Obviously, I would like to have a couple of more podiums finishes at this point, but after what happened at the season opener, I’m glad to be where I’m at now.
“I’m still within striking distance of the guys in front of me. All I can do is focus on one race at a time and go from there. There are still enough races left in the season that I can continue to make up ground in the points standings. I need to be on the podium from here on out though for sure if I want to keep my chances alive, and that’s why I’m going to give it everything I’ve got.”
Live coverage of the event starts at 8 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 1 from Arlington.
