Johann Zarco at Brno Moto2

The Frenchman Johann Zarco is one step closer to earning a first Moto2 World Championship title. The Ajo Motorsports pilot dominated the Czech Republic Grand Prix at Brno, earning his fourth win of 2015 Moto2.

Zarco crossed the 2015 Brno Moto2 finish line 1.421 seconds ahead of the reigning Marc VDS Kalex’s Tito Rabat and 1.785 ahead of Paginas Amarillas HP40’s rookie Alex Rins

With the 2015 Brno Moto2 win came an extended points lead; Zarco now has 224 points – 79 ahead of the reigning Moto2 Champion Tito Rabat (Marc VDS Kalex).

With track temperatures over 100 degrees F, Rabat beat pole-man Zarco to turn one. But Zarco’s pace was fierce, and he passed Rabat for the lead on the second lap. Rabat then had a scary moment at turn nine, but was able to regain his rhythm. Though he ran at a quick pace, he could not catch Zarco.

Rins, who was running a harder rear tire unline the mediums of Zarco and Rabat, looked to gain much on the frontrunners. But Rabat held him off by 0.364 of a second, which allowed Tito to bump into second in the point standings. Rins is now third, one point behind Rabat and 80 behind Zarco.

Rabat’s teammate Alex Marquez – the younger brother of two-time MotoGP Champion Marc Marquez and reigning Moto3 Champion – earned his top result of 2015 Moto2 with fourth (-2.608 seconds).

Speed Up Racing’s Sam Lowes earned fifth at 2015 Brno Moto2, 7.844 seconds behind, after starting back in 13th. MotoGP reports that the British rider experienced technical issues in Qualifying and was forced to fight his way through the pack during the race in a case of damage limitation to secure 11 championship points.

AGR Team’s Jonas Folger finished sixth, 8.056 seconds behind Zarco, and was followed by Derendinger Racing Interwetten Kalex of Thomas Luthi. He had actually led the race on the first lap, but found himself dropping back through the field as the race progressed.

Rounding out the top 10 were Sandro Cortese (Dynavolt Intact GP), Luis Salom (Paginas Amarillas HP40), and Franco Morbidelli (Italtrans Racing team). Robin Mulhauser, Lorenzo Baldassari, Florian Alt, Louis Rossi and Xavi Vierge all recorded DNFs.

The series now breaks for two weeks ahead of the Silverstone Moto2.
