2014 Assen Moto3 Results

In a Moto3 loaded with crashes at Assen, Estrella Galicia 0,0’s Alex Marquez won his second race of the season.

The brother of the reigning MotoGP Champion Marc Marquez, who won the MotoGP race in Assen, was joined on the Moto3 podium by teammate Alex Rins and Mahindra Racing’s Miguel Oliveira.

The race wasn’t so lucky for Moto3 point front runners Jack Miller (Red Bull KTM Ajo) and Romano Fenati (SKY Racing Team VR46); both suffered crashes. Miller was forced to DNF, and Fenati recovered to finish 18th.

As for Marquez, he led most of the 22-lap race after starting second on the grid behind the pole man Miller, the current points leader. Marquez’s teammate Rins and Oliveria were a threat, but couldn’t quite catch the Spaniard.

Marquez would eventually finish 2.960 seconds ahead of Rins, who overtook Oliveira during the final stages of the Moto3. Oliveira finished 3.644 seconds back, and 12 ahead of Alexis Masbou (Ongetta-Rivacold), who battled intensely with a group of seven riders.

In that battle were the following fourth through 10th finishers – Masbou were Niccolo Antonelli (Junior Team GO&FUN), Efren Vazquez (SAXOPRINT RTG), Isaac Viñales (Calvo Team), Danny Kent (Red Bull Husqvarna Ajo), Brad Binder (Ambrogio Racing) and John McPhee (SAXOPRINT RTG), respectively.

As for Miller and Fenati, neither were injured during their wrecks. Though he suffered a DNF, Miller retains a seven-point lead over Fenati. Marquez is also seven points back in third, and Rins has moved up to fourth, 10 points behind Miller.

The following riders also crashed at Assen Moto3: Enea Bastianini (Junior Team Go&FUN Moto3), Niklas Ajo (Avant Tecno Husqvarna Ajo), Luca Grünwald (Kiefer Racing), Juanfran Guevara (Mapfre Aspar Team Moto3) and Alessandro Tonucci (CIP) and Karel Hanika (Red Bull KTM Ajo).

This riders were all uninjured, but Ajo was checked by the medical staff due to ankle knock.

The Moto3 series now breaks for two weeks ahead of Sachsenring in Germany.
