An ecstatic motorcyclist from Torrington, Devon, had his biking dream fulfilled after bike insurance specialists Bennetts made it possible for him to be an official marshal at the 2014 Isle of Man TT.
Andy Smale, a 46-year-old coach driver, marked his third appearance at the iconic road race as part of the event’s safety team for the second week of the contest.
Smale, who rides a Triumph Street Triple completed a rigorous marshal training course ahead of his trip to the 107-year-old motorcycling event, which this year took place over a two-week period from May 24 to June 6.
Smale submitted his wish to be a TT marshal as part of the Bennetts Biking Dreams initiative, after he was unable to attend this year’s event due to suffering costly damage as a result of the winter storms in January 2014.
Bennetts, an official sponsor of the 2014 Isle of Man TT races, additionally arranged for Smale to have a privileged tour of the Norton Race Team garage, and to also experience a high-speed lap of the 37.73 mile course on the final day of the event.
On his time at the 2014 Isle of Man TT Smale said “It’s been an absolutely amazing week and the Bennetts team made me feel like a VIP. I was positioned in sector 1 at Bray Hill and marshalled both of the Supersport TT races, the Superstock TT, and also the TT Zero challenge. It was wonderful to get up close and personal with the Norton Race team and have a full tour of their garage. I will certainly look to marshal at the TT again and perhaps get involved at my local race track.”
