2014 Pikes Peak Aboard Ninja ZX-10R

The American Jeremy Toye has quite the list of motorcycle-racing accomplishments, including the fastest lap for a newcomer at Isle of Man TT (2006), a podium finish at the Macau GP, and a few top-five finishes in AMA Pro Racing.

And now, the San Diego resident will attempt another feat – the famed “Race to the Clouds” Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in Colorado.

Toye’s weapon of chose will be the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R, which will be modified to compete in the Open Class division of the famed race that runs 12.42 miles up Pikes Peak. The racing begins at 8 a.m. Sunday, June 29.

Toye’s goal? Beating the outright Pikes Peak motorcycle record stein 2012 by Carlin Dunne; piloting a Ducati Multistrada, Dunne conquered the mountain in 9:52.819.

Toye will be present with Kawasaki representatives to celebrate the Ninja’s 30th Anniversary in downtown Colorado Springs at the Pikes Peak Fan Fest on Friday, June 27.

Besides Toye, Kawasaki says Daniel Fernández from Medellin, Colombia will be competing on a Kawasaki Versys 1000. He will be the first Colombian rider to compete at Pikes Peak.

The Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is North America’s second-oldest motorsports event behind the Indianapolis 500. The hill climb is the ultimate test of man and machine, since no other course in the world offers the challenge of 156 complex hairpin turns during the nearly 5,000 ft ascent to the mountain’s 14,110 ft. summit amid some of the world’s most breathtaking scenery.
