2014 World Superbike Round 2 Video Highlights from Phillip Island

The opening round of the 2014 World Superbike Championship wrapped up Sunday at Phillip Island in Australia, with two manufacturers splitting the wins.

Following Eugene Laverty’s race-one win aboard the Voltcom Suzuki GSX-R 1000, the Northern Irishman looked to be a favorite. But things changed quickly in race two. Laverty suffered a DNF due to his engine blowing up on the 15th laps Laverty was running in second at the time.

Due to oil being on the track from Laverty’s GSX-R 1000, the race was red flagged and called. Taking the win was Aprilia’s Sylvain Guintoli, who also won race one last season at Phillip Island. The Frenchman was joined on the podium by the Kawasaki Racing Team duo of Loris Baz and Tom Sykes.
