2014 World Superbike Race 1 Highlights from Phillip Island
Two separate manufacturers shared wins this past weekend at the opening round of 2014 World Superbike at Phillip Island – Suzuki and Aprilia.
Suzuki claimed the first race with its new pilot Eugene Laverty at the controls of the GSX-R 1000. The Voltcom Suzuki World SBK rider didn’t have a run-away win, though. The Northern Irishman started from seventh on the grid, but made his way past the six riders ahead to take the lead.
When the WSBK race ended, Laverty – who also won in 2013 at Phillip Island and doubled at the final round of 2013 in Jerez (then Aprilia) – was joined on the podium by the Aprilia Racing Team duo of Marco Melandri and Sylvain Guintoli, respectively.
