Hector Barbera Training Crash

While training in his hometown in Spain for the upcoming US Grand Prix at Laguna Seca, Pramac Racing Ducati’s Hector Barbera sustained some injury.

His team reports that the 25-year-old broke his left fibula and shinbone during the “training mishap,” though it wasn’t reported what type of training Barbera was performing.

Barbera will undergo surgery Saturday morning at the Instituto Universitario USP Dexeus in Barcelona. Dr. Xavier Mir, chief of the plastic surgery unit who had previously treated Barbera for injuries during the 2010 MotoGP season, and his crew will perform the surgery.

On Saturday, Dr. Mir will re-examine Barberá to determine the estimated recovery time needed in order to see the Spaniard back on his Ducati. The Pramac Racing Team will wait for the surgery’s result to decide the plans for the foreseeable future.

Barbera’s best finish of 2012 MotoGP was seventh at Assen.
