2012 World Superbike Video
The 2012 World Superbike Championship traveled to the states last weekend for the traditional Memorial Day double header at Miller Motorsports Park in Utah.
And one man was a favorite due to doubling there in 2011 – Althea Racing Ducati’s Carlos Checa. Although the reigning World SBK Champion didn’t do the double, he completely dominated race 1, showing the Ducati 1198’s dominance at Miller.
When race one of round six completed, Checa would finish 2.313 seconds ahead of BMW Motorrad’s Marco Melandri, who gave BMW its first-ever World SBK win at Donington during round five. Taking the final podium position was Aprilia Racing’s Max Biaggi, the 2010 World SBK Champ.
Checa began race two in dominate form, but crashed out on lap seven after slipping on some oil left on the circuit from Honda World Superbike’s Hiroshi Aoyama. This gave the lead to Melandri, who went onto win after a fierce duel with Aoyama’s teammate, Jonathan Rea. Taking third behind Rea was once again Biaggi, who currently leads the 2012 World SBK Championship by 18 points over Melandri and Kawasaki Racing’s Tom Sykes (tied at 142.5 points).
Attached above are video highlights of race 1, with race 2 highlights below.
