Stewart to Miss New Orleans Supercross

2012 AMA Supercross

Following his dominate win at Daytona Supercross, James Stewart was once again presenting a challenge to Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto.

But at the following round (11) at Indianapolis, while stopped on the track, the Joe Gibbs Racing Yamaha rider was knocked out cold when he was struck by GEICO Honda’s Kevin Windham. During the crash, he also fractured his hand.

The injuries caused the two-time AMA Supercross Champion to miss out on the Indy round, the subsequent two at Toronto and Houston. And while absent at Houston, Villopoto clinched the 2012 AMA Supercross Championship.

And on Thursday, Stewart’s team also reported that he will miss this weekends round 14 at Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans. His team reports missing New Orleans SX will "allow his hand additional time to recover. Before rejoining the series Stewart will have the injury re-evaluated by his doctor."

As the AMA SX field heads into New Orleans for Round 14 of 17, Stewart is in fifth place in the overall championship with 178 points.

Along with Stewart, two other top riders have been missing from the series – Two-Two Motorsport Honda’s Chad Reed (injured, Round 7 at Arlington) and Red Bull KTM’s Ryan Dungey (injury, practicing for Round 9 at St Louis).
