2012 MotoGP Testing

The first official test of the 2012 MotoGP Championship debuted the prototypes of the 1000cc era, and the new Claiming Rule Teams.

And when the three-day test at Sepang, Malaysia, wrapped up Thursday, the 1000cc machine bikes were beyond lethal to previous lap times at the circuit.

Repsol Honda’s Casey Stoner was the man to catch at Sepang I, the RC213V rider the only rider to break the 2:00 barrier; the Australian posted a blistering lap of 1:59.606.

But although he was the only one under the 2:00 mark, the next three riders that followed all posted under the record lap of 2:00.518 set by Valentino Rossi in 2009 (Fiat Yamaha).

The MotoGP pilots were Jorge Lorenzo (Yamaha Factory Racing, 2:00.198), Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda, 2:00.526) and Ben Spies (Yamaha Factory Racing, 2:00.494). As for Rossi, the Ducati GP12 rider posted the fifth fastest time of 2:00.824.

Out of the CRTs on the track, Colin Edwards was quickest aboard the NGM Mobile Forward Racing machine; he posted a 2:04.722; hsi team was 5.115 seconds behind Stoner.
