Honda World SBK Tests, Day 1 (Video)

2012 World Superbike Prep

With World Superbike just over a month away, the factory Honda team of Jonathan Rea and Hiroshi Aoyama began a three-day test Tuesday at Phillip Island, Australia.

During the Tuesday test, which is highlighted above, Rea (65) and former MotoGP pilot Aoyama (4) piloted 2012 CBR1000 RR Fireblades; 2012 celebrates the 20th anniversary of the iconic CBR Fireblade.

Rea joined the Honda team for 2009 World SBK, finishing fifth overall that season and fourth overall in 2010. Rea was plagued by injury during the 2011 WSBK Championship, breaking his arm during a warm-up crash for Misano World SBK; he would miss that round, and the subsequent three, finishing ninth overall. Since joining Honda, Rea has eight wins.

Aoyama signed with the Honda World SBK team in October, 2011, while competing with the San Carlo Honda Gresini Team next to the late Marco Simoncelli in 2011 MotoGP. Before MotoGP, Aoyama rode in the 250cc Grand Prix series, taking a total of nine victories with 18 other podium finishes.
