Honda WSBK: Muggeridge Out, Lai In
2011 World Superbike
For Silverstone World Superbike, Round 9 of the 2011 Championship this weekend, the defending IDM German Superbike Champion Karl Muggeridge was slated to ride for the injured Ruben Xaus.
But due to spraining his right wrist in a mountain bike crash while on vacation in Italy, the Australian was forced to withdraw, not being able to compete on the Castrol Honda CBR1000RR at Silverstone WSBK.
Although the news came suddenly, Castrol Honda found yet another rider to fill in for Xaus, he sustained injury to his leg at Brno World Superbike.
Riding for Xaus this weekend at Silverstone WSBK will be the Italian Fabrizio Lai, a 32-year old who made his World Superbike debut with the Echo CRS Honda team last season.
Lai, a former 125cc- and 250cc-MotoGP podium finisher, is currently competing in the Italian Superbike championship on a CBR1000RR for the Echo Honda squad, to “whom the Castrol Honda team is very grateful for his release.”
Ronald Ten Kate (Castrol Honda WSBK Team Manager) says: “We’re all very sorry for Karl, as we were really looking forward to working with him again this weekend. However, we understand that he needs to be fit for the next IDM round to fight again for the title. So, we have a replacement for Ruben’s replacement, and we will make Fabrizio welcome and work hard with him to get the best result possible at Silverstone.”
