Misano Superbike: Checa Tops Q2

2011 World Superbike

During Friday’s qualifying practice session, Althea Ducati’s Carlos Checa was able to top his rival Max Biaggi by a mere tenth of a second. And the Spaniard continued to hold this edge over the Alitalia Aprilia rider Saturday morning before Superpole.

The gap grew between the two World Superbike pilots, but not by much; Checa topped Biaggi by three-tenths of a second. The sole Suzuki rider Michel Fabrizio was a tenth behind Biaggi, with Kawasaki’s Joan Lascorz in fourth and Yamaha’s Marco Melandri in fifth.

During the 45-minute Q2 WSBK session, but Checa and Fabrzio had single-rider crashes, but walked away unharmed.

During the WSBK Free Practice session just before Superpole, Checa again took the top honors, followed this time by Fabrizio and Biaggi’s teammate Leon Camier. As for Biaggi, he dropped to seventh quickest.

WSBK Superpole is currently underway; stay clicked to UltimateMotorCycling.com for results.
