Castrol Honda Superbike: Miller Test

2011 Honda Superbike

In the 2011 World Superbike Championship, teams can pick one venue that’s currently on the calendar, and only use that venue for testing.

With riders from Spain and Northern Ireland, it would be expected that the Castrol Honda World Superbike team would pick a European circuit, but it didn’t; the Castrol Honda WSBK team chose Miller Motorsports Park in Utah.

The team will head there with riders Jonathan Rea and Ruben Xaus to do some mide-season testing the Sunday and Monday before Round 5 at the same venue the weekend of May 29-30.

Castrol Honda says: “With so many other available non-championship circuits in Europe to choose from, and finding significant issues with set-up at the crucial mid-season venue of Miller last year, the team made the radical choice of making Miller their test track this year.

“Miller is a unique circuit in many ways, including being the one with the highest altitude and therefore the thinnest air of any current WSBK track – always a specific challenge to overcome when so much available horsepower is lost in the thin mountain air.”

With four of 13 rounds completed, Rea is fourth in the World Superbike standings with 89 points. His best finish was a win at Assen. As for Xaus, he is currently 15th with 31 points.
