Round 4 of the 2011 World Superbike Championship began well for rookie rider Eugene Laverty Sunday morning in Monza, Italy.

The Irish Yamaha Superbike rider took his first victory in WSBK, finishing 1.6 seconds ahead of the reining World Superbike Champion Max Biaggi. Taking the final podium spot was Leon Haslam on the BMW Motorrad Motorsport S1000RR.

Rounding out the top five were Yamaha World Superbike’s Marco Melandri and Suzuki Alstare’s Michel Fabrizio.

Laverty’s win takes him to sixth in the WSBK standings; Aa full review of both Monza World Superbike races to follow.
