2012 MotoGP

Ducati was the first to test its 2012 MotoGP GP12 prototype earlier this month with Valentino Rossi and Nicky Hayden at the controls.

But now Honda reported running some laps at Suzuka on the machine it’ll be using in the 2012 MotoGP season.

Honda conducted the private test at Suzuki with HRC Test riders Kousuke Akiyoshi and Tady Okada on April 14-15. So far, neither of the three Repsol Honda boys – Dani Pedrosa, Casey Stoner or Andrea Dovizioso – have ridden the new prototype.

It is also unknown if Honda will utilize the 1000cc maximum engine capacity that will begin in 2012 MotoGP, although the team is expected too.

Besides Honda and Ducati testing out some prototype 2012 machines, Yamaha Factory Racing is expected to be next; reigning MotoGP Champion Jorge Lorenzo recently reported he will do some private testing aboard the 2012 Yamaha M1 after the Mugello Grand Prix in July.
