Moto2 Pre-Season Test
After two months under the no-testing MotoGP ban, Marc Marquez was at Catalunya Monday for the first of a two-day test at the Spanish circuit aboard the Repsol Moto2 machine.
The 125cc MotoGP champion Marquez, who graduated to Moto2 for 2011, spent the winter break training on a bicycle and some motocross, but was back to intense on-track work Monday. Marquez spent the afternoon adapting to the Moto2 machine’s weight, and picking out reference points on the Catalan track.
After the day was complete, Marquez finished 54 laps aboard the Repsol Moto2 bike. He will have another session on Tuesday, and then travel to Valencia this Thursday through Saturday for even more pre-season Moto2 testing.
Marc Marquez (Repsol Moto2) says: "The first day it always takes a bit to set a good pace again after so long and you don’t feel completely comfortable, but thanks to the team’s help we were able to improve step by step.
"When I began to lap a bit faster we also started to make some small adjustments to the bike’s set-up, but they are still not very significant. Now we have to take things calmly; we will have time to try and set good registers.
"This first test was for me to recover the confidence on the bike, run the first kilometers of the year and get the first feelings from the bike. As I increased the pace, we found some set-up problems that we have been solving, but we still have a good margin to improve."
