Portimao Superbike Test Results, Day 2

2011 World Superbike Tests

The second day of official World Superbike testing at Portimao, Portugal, got underway in wet conditions on Thursday.

Both the morning and afternoon sessions were plagued by consistent rain drops, but as the track began to slowly dry out during the later session, the top time went to Jonathan Rea on the Castrol Honda CBR1000RR.

The Northern Irishman posted a 1:54.718, over 10 seconds slower than Jakub Smrz’s top time on Wednesday aboard the Effenbert Liberty Ducati superbike.

Out of the combined Thursday times in the wet conditions, Yamaha World Superbike rider Marco Malendri was second fastest, with Althea Ducati rider Carolos Checa third fastest.

The reigning World Superbike Champions, Aprilia Alitalia’s Max Biaggi, did not participate in the Thursday practice sessions, but he remains sixth fastest overall between both test day times.

All together, eight superbike riders took to the track during the Thursday morning session, with Checa leading the way, and 12 during the afternoon.

Riders will be on track Friday for the last of three days of World Superbike testing at Portimao, the first official session of 2011.
