Isle of Man TT star Conor Cummins has praised marshals and medics who assisted him after his high speed crash in Friday’s Dainese Senior TT.

The final race of the 2010 Isle of Man TT was red flagged on lap three after Guy Martin had a fiery crash at Ballagarey. He was airlifted to hospital with chest injuries and minor fractures to his upper spine.

The race was reduced to four laps when it was restarted and Manxman Cummins was running well when he crashed heavily at the Vernandah on the Mountain section. He was reported to be conscious and talking at the scene before being airlifted to hospital.

The popular Ramsey rider, who remains in the Isle of Man’s Noble’s Hospital, has paid tribute to everyone who has helped since his crash, and thanked supporters who have sent gifts and get well soon messages.

Conor Cummins says: “I don’t know the names of the people who helped me but the marshals and medics were superb from the moment I had the accident. I’d also like to thank all of the staff in the Accident and Emergency Ward at Noble’s Hospital who have been brilliant since I arrived.”

“I have been really heartened to receive lots of cards and goodwill messages. I’ve even received toys from children which is very kind.”

He sustained a back injury, fractured arm, dislocated knee and bruising to the lungs. The injuries mean he will not be able to race again this season, but he is determined to return to the track as soon as possible.

He continued: “I know that I have a lot of hard work ahead of me this winter, but I will be doing everything I can to be fully fit and competitive for the start of next season.”

Guy Martin is due to be discharged from Noble’s Hospital today or tomorrow. Sidecar passenger Joseph Shardlow remains in hospital, where his condition is described as comfortable and improving, while Pete Alton requires further treatment on a leg injury.

Karsten Schmidt has been transferred to a hospital in Germany.
