James Stewart: Motocross Race Return?

MX Report

James "Bubba" Stewart Jr., the first African-American to dominate in MX, did not compete at the opening 2010 AMA Motocross round at Hangtown this past Saturday.

Founded in March 1968 by the Dirt Diggers North Motorcycle Club (DDNMC) to bring top motocross riders to Northern California, the Hangtown Classic was born and has become one of the most anticipated MX motorcycle races of the year.

With James Stewart not yet fully healed from his wrist injury, the 42nd Rockstar Energy Hangtown Classic in Rancho Cordova, California came and went without his influence.

With 11 of 12 rounds left, fans everywhere are still hoping and willing that Stewart will return in time to earn enough points to challenge Chad Reed and Ryan Dungey for the outdoor championship.

Stewart has been keeping his fans somewhat updated via Twitter. As you can read from the JS7 Tweets below, James is disappointed and dissatisfied with the progress of his injury.

Most notable though is his strong desirer to return to the outdoor series, not only to race, but also to win. He Tweets with confidence…"I will win!! 5-13-10 write it down and please remember that I said that. I will win".

On May 13th JS7 also revealed while referring to the Hangtown race: "I’m getting upset because I’m not sure if I’m gonna be able to make it. 7:26 PM May 13th". And: "Haven’t gotten released to race yet. I feel great but I can’t ride yet without a doctors release."

When Stewart returns he will have his work cut-out for him in order to make-up lost points to the rest of the pack.

After missing only Round 1 of the AMA Motocross in Hangtown, the title chase stacks-up as follows:

1. Chad Reed, Australia, Kawasaki, 45
2. Mike Alessi, Victorville, Calif., KTM, 43
3. Davi Millsaps, Murrieta, Calif., Honda, 42
4. Brett Metcalfe, Australia, Honda, 34
5. Josh Grant, Riverside, Calif., Yamaha, 33
6. Ben Townley, New Zealand, Honda, 29
7. Ryan Sipes, Flaherty, Ky., Yamaha, 27
8. Ryan Dungey, Belle Plaine, Minn., Suzuki, 26
9. Ken DeDycker, Belgium, Yamaha, 23
10. Andrew Short, Smithville, Tex., Honda, 22

–. James Stewart, Haines City, Fla., Yamaha, 0
