The HANNspree FIM Superbike World Championship returns to the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza this weekend for another classic motorcycle racing competition on the famous Italian racetrack.
Twenty years on from the first WSBK race at the Monza circuit on the fringes of Milan, the World SBK challenge is still the same, but this time with seven different motorcycle manufacturers competing with the best racing talent from Italy and the World the same.
Expectation is high over the coming Monza round of the Superbike World Championship, none more so than with the all-Italian combination of Max Biaggi and the V4 Aprilia Superbike.
Biaggi, aka the ‘Roman Emperor’, is convinced about the potential of his RSV4 Factory Superbike and is particularly fired up for the race weekend as he considers his numerous fans to be an extra ace up his sleeve for the two road races.
Biaggi’s fans follow him all over the world, but the Monza round will be a special event. It all started back in 1989. Max was eighteen, and he raced his first road race at Magione in the 125cc class Sport Production Italian Championship on a Honda.
In 1992 when he entered the world road-racing scene as wildcard rider in France. He was on the Valesi Team, the motorcycle an Aprilia 250cc and Pierfrancesco Chili was his teammate. Max was wearing a gaudy pink fuchsia helmet and raced with no fears.
Italian fans took to Biaggi and his Fan Club grew. Now with Biaggi sitting second in the points to Leon Haslam his Fan Club will be urging Max to regain the glory he experienced after winning four straight 250cc GP World Championships from 1994-1997.
Max Biaggi says: "I don’t know what the guys in my Fan Club have prepared but I am sure they will have made a massive effort, as always," declared Biaggi. "All I have to do now is wait for Sunday to find out …".
