Breaks Five Speed Records
Enabling a pair of CBR600RRs to achieve record-breaking speeds quickly and complete their runs safely, super-light, ultra-strong Blackstone Tek (BST) wheels entered the 200 MPH club at Bonneville Speed Week and broke five world records.
Team Principal Paul Livingston equipped the Hondas with BST wheels first and foremost for his riders’ piece of mind. "The biggest thing that can clog your brain while hurtling down course," he said, "is worry about mechanical problems. Knowing the incredible strength of these carbon fiber wheels gave our riders tremendous confidence while approaching and exceeding 200 mph."
The wheels’ light weight was another factor in choosing BST, Livingston explained: "We gear the motors to pull hard on the top end. BST’s light carbon fiber rims help the engines spin up to speed quickly because they have less mass to pull."
There’s no arguing with his strategies or the team’s success at Speed Week, the Southern California Timing Association’s annual race meet at the Bonneville Salt Flats, 88 miles west of Salt Lake City, Utah.
Competing on a BST-shod, turbocharged CBR sponsored by DynoJet-FL Racing, Dusty Schaller scored an even 206 mph to shatter the former 650cc MPS/BF (modified, partial streamliner, blown, fuel) record of 170.032 by 36 mph. On the same bike, running normal gas, he upped the old 153.191 mph 650cc MPS/BG record by 31 mph, taking the five-year-old Honda to 187.608 mph.
Suspension guru Paul Thede, piloting a normally aspirated, BST-wheeled Race Tech-FL Racing CBR600RR, broke three 650cc records, most notably pushing Don Vesco’s 34-year-old MPS/G (modified, partial streamliner, gas) run another 3.69 clicks, to 175.023 mph. He also upped the 168.129 mph MPS/F (fuel) record of 1985 to 175.828, and broke a five-year old, 157.556 mph M/G (modified, gas) record by 4.47 mph on the CBR sans fairing.

Approved for WERA Superbike and Formula 1 roadracing classes, they are currently undergoing AMA Pro Racing’s homologation process.
