Ashley Fiolek speaks to Women & Motorcycling

Motocross sensation Ashley Fiolek will be the keynote speaker at the AMA (American Motorcyclist Association) International Women & Motorcycling Conference, presented by Harley-Davidson and Buell. Fiolek has won 13 amateur national titles, the 2008 Women’s Motocross Association national championship, made her debut at the X Games and brought home the gold medal in the women’s motocross competition, was nominated for an ESPY in 2009, and is currently the points leader in the 2009 series as the first woman ever to compete as a member of the Honda Racing factory team.

WHERE: Keystone Conference Center, Colo., approximately 75 miles west of Denver, I-70 West, exit 205, south 5 miles on US Hwy 6.

WHEN: Fiolek will speak Wednesday evening, Aug. 19, at the Welcoming Ceremony in the Columbine Ballroom (Conference Center), 7:00-8:30 p.m. The conference runs Wednesday-Saturday, Aug. 19-22, activities begin 8:30 a.m. (Registration required for attendees.)

WHO: Women from 43 states, plus Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and Japan, and representatives from more than 50 riding clubs are attending the conference.

ACTIVITIES: Daily seminars, demo rides, group rides, vendor marketplace, and after-hours social events at the idyllic Keystone Resort.

WHY: Women are a vibrant and increasingly significant presence in motorcycling, and now account for an estimated 12.6 percent of all motorcycle and scooter riders, a 29 percent increase since 2003 (source: Motorcycle Industry Council).
