Up and Coming Road Race Talent.
Riding the momentum of her historic wins at Buttonwillow Raceway Park, 15-year-old Elena Myers took two wins and a second-place finish this weekend at the WERA West event at Las Vegas Motor Speedway’s "outer" track, from exciting come-from-behind grid positions. And we’re talking Expert class.
Undeterred by an eighth-row grid position and a mid-race off-track excursion, Myers bested the field of racers in the Solo 20, 20-lap event, at Vegas, in only her second weekend of riding on Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa DOT racing tires. Through Myers’ challenging gridding she been able to show that she can win races by either leading the pack or by passing it, on her Kawasaki ZX-6R.
Myers’ other win was in C Superstock where she started from the 12th row, immediately launching into seventh place by turn one, and then quickly passing the rest of the riders for the win.
Myers said, "I rode a comfortable race. I like the track, it’s a pretty short lap but I like the layout. It has some fast stuff, some hard braking, I like that. I’m getting really good starts and I really like the tires. The feel of the front is great and I’m surprised at how easily they were to get comfortable on. Road racing is my thing. I love the speed and everything about that."
In C Superbike Myers started from the 7th row and seasoned professional racer Jeremy Toye took the win, with Myers finishing second. Myers said, "Jeremy was on the fifth row and we both had good starts but I was held up a bit and was in 10th into the first turn. But again, my tires worked great. I’m so happy with them. In the two eight-lap sprints I used the same front tire. I’d like to thank some people who’ve been helping me: my father [Matt] and mother [Anita], Kawasaki, Carry Andrew of Hypercycle who built my ZX-6R, the Pirelli guys Corey Neuer and Chris McGuire from CT Racing, and Alex Assanti from Bike911.com, and everyone else showing support."
Myers, who turns 16-years old in November, is doing the full schedule of the WERA West series. To follow her racing adventures visit: www.elenamyers.com. Myers can next be seen racing in person at the May 9-10 WERA West at Buttonwillow.
