Slimane’s inspiration has proven to be as eclectic as his subjects and passions. From the exploration of the male sensi-bility to the crackling night scenes of London and Berlin to different styles of rock music, his slim, sharp styling has caught the attention of David Bowie, Mick Jagger, Beck and Peter Doherty. He approached the Fall 2006 collection as a symphonic orchestration of the colors of the night: black, white, splashes of gray and a touch of red. Slimane’s classic looks include a black leather motorcycle jacket over a geometric variation of a tuxedo shirt, jeans with rough, contrasting waistbands, studded belts and neo-1970s buckled boots. The eyewear collection, produced and distributed by Safilo, translates faithfully as a series of close, true wraparounds and modified aviators with flash-coated lenses and seductive gradient tints.
A photographer, furniture designer, and the recipient of numerous accolades, including International Designer of the Year from the Council of Fashion Designers of America, Slimane also directs the men’s fragrance division of the company as well as the design and architecture of the Dior Homme boutiques. Various intercontinental locations now include Paris, Milan, Tokyo, Shanghai and Moscow, as well as New York, Las Vegas and Beverly Hills in the United States. The collections are also featured in select specialty retail stores of Neiman Marcus, Barney’s, Harrod’s, El Corte Ingles and Les Galeries Lafayette.
