2011 World Superbike

The FIM released an updated 2011 World Superbike calendar, which confirms Donington as the venue for Round 2, and Imola for Round 11 in Italy.

As in 2010, there will be 13 circuits on the 2011 schedule with the typical World Superbike two-day races. The opening round will occur on Feb. 27 at Phillip Island, Australia, with the traditional pre-season tests occurring at the track the Monday and Tuesday before race weekend, Feb 21 and 22.

Also, World Supersport will make its only non-European appearance of the 2011 WSBK schedule at the season opener in Australia.

Round 2 sees the return of Donington Park, the first of two Superbike rounds to occur in the UK in 2011. The venue is very historical, considering World Superbike held it’s first race there in 1988.

For 2011, WSBK then visits the historic Assen for Round 3, followed by the first of three Italian rounds at Monza for Round 4.

World Superbike then heads to Miller Motorsports Park in the US without the support of World Supersport. The Superbike races will occur on Sunday and Monday, which is Memorial Day.

This will be the fourth consecutive season that WSBK competes in Utah, and for 2011 the FIM series will share the track with AMA Superbike.

For June, two races will occur: first, Round 6 at San Marino in Masano, and then the debut Superbike race at the Motorland Aragon Circuit in Spain.

Round 8 occurs at Brno in the Czech Republic, followed by the second British WSBK round at Silverstone. Then for August, the World Superbike grid takes their traditional month-long August break.

The action commences at Nurburgring in Germany on Sept. 4, and then comes the final three rounds within four weeks: Imola, the final Italy round, Magny Cours in France and the finale at Portimao, in Portugal.

Portugal will also hosts the first official tests of the 2011 World Superbike season, which occur Jan. 26-28.

As for the Superstock classes, there will be 10 rouunds of action beginning at the Assen Round on April 1. The only venue they won’t compete at during this time will be Miller.
