MotoGP Phillip Island Qualifying Report
Casey Stoner will start the Iveco Australian Grand Prix on pole position for the second year running, after topping Saturday’s qualifying timesheet. The Ducati rider remains on course for a hat-trick of Phillip Island victories at his home circuit.
Having enjoyed wins in the past two seasons at the Australian track, Stoner’s best time of 1’30.341 on his Desmosedici GP9 was just 0.050s faster than nearest rival Valentino Rossi.

"What a day!
Jorge Lorenzo Speaks… (1st, 1’36.214)
"It’s been quite a few races since I’ve had a pole! I was getting a bit worried because doing one fast lap has always been one of my strong points but lately we haven’t been able to be quite competitive enough with the soft tyre. This weekend however everything is working really well and the setting with both tyres is great, so I was able to go out and do some very fast laps. Tomorrow is another day and we know that everyone will be strong, so we will just try and push to the limit and see what happens."

There was plenty going on ahead of the return to action at the bwin.com Grande Prémio de Portugal on Thursday, with Casey Stoner back in the MotoGP paddock after a three round break due to illness and with Monster Yamaha Tech 3 announcing their all- American line-up of Ben Spies and Colin Edwards for 2010.
Stoner has missed the last three races at Brno, Indianapolis and Misano as he remained in his native Australia for several weeks in order to fully recover from the fatigue and stomach problems which had hindered him since the Barcelona race in June.
Ben Spies will join fellow Texan Colin Edwards on the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 team in 2010, forming an all-American rider lineup. It’s the first time Americans will team up for a full season in the premier class since 2005, when Kenny Roberts Jr. and John Hopkins paired for Suzuki.
The Monster Yamaha Tech 3 Team is delighted to announce it will field Colin Edwards and Ben Spies in an all-American line-up for the 2010 MotoGP world championship.
Edwards has agreed a new one-year contract after the Texan produced the best form of his MotoGP career during 2009, including a stunning second place in the British MotoGP at Donington Park.
The 35-year-old has featured in the top seven in ten out of 13 races so far and he’s still firmly in contention for a top five world championship placing.
