Today at the Auto Expo, Harley-Davidson India announced it will bring 12 motorcycles from its 2010 model portfolio to India. The broad selection, with bikes from each of its five model families, will give riders in India maximum choice and opportunity to join millions of Harley-Davidson owners worldwide in pursuit of adventure, freedom and self-expression.

Royal Enfield History
Royal Enfield was incorporated as Enfield India Limited on the 21st of November in 1955 with the first bikes being assembled from CKD kits. It was the first 4-stroke motorcycle manufacturer in the India.

On Friday 18th December, and in the presence of a very special guest, India’s second Ducati show room was officially opened for business.

Harley-Davidson, Inc. (NYSE: HOG) announced today its plans to formally enter the motorcycle market in India, where it expects to start selling its iconic motorcycles in 2010. The company has established a subsidiary to be located in Gurgaon, near Delhi, and has begun the process of seeking dealers.
Harley-Davidson Motor Company President and Chief Operating Officer, Matthew Levatich, is an invited speaker at the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers annual convention on August 28, and will provide further details on the company’s plans then.

There is definitely something wrong with this picture. I’m bombing along a back road in Santa Paula, Calif. (aka the Citrus Capital of the World) aboard a mercilessly underpowered, somewhat skittish motorcycle that, despite being the latest offering from the company, hasn’t witnessed any major design changes since Eisenhower was president. Yet, I’m having an absolute ball.
