The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Centennial Era Concours d’Elegance, featuring some of the world’s finest classic and antique automobiles and motorcycles, is moving to June 17-19, 2011.
The event, originally scheduled for June 18-20, 2010, is shifting to the new date due to the challenging state of the world economy. This decision, based on the recommendation of industry leaders, will provide the best opportunity for a successful event as the economy continues to recover in 2010.
Repsol Honda Team rider Dani Pedrosa won the pole Aug. 29 for the 2009 Red Bull Indianapolis GP at Indianapolis Motor Speedway with a MotoGP track-record lap of 1 minute, 39.730 seconds.
Pedrosa, a 23-year-old native of Barcelona, Spain, maintained a narrow lead over second-place qualifier Jorge Lorenzo until he pulled off his record lap on his 28th of 30 total laps in the qualifying session.
Racing starts at noon (ET) Sunday at IMS, with the MotoGP race at 3 p.m. Morning warm-ups in all three classes – MotoGP, 250cc and 125cc – start at 9:40 a.m.
Indianapolis Motor Speedway welcomed the Schwantz School on August 21-22 for its inaugural event at the "Racing Capital of the World." Twenty-three students spent two days lapping IMS’s 16-turn, 2.621-mile road course, the same track that Valentino Rossi, Nicky Hayden and the rest of the world’s best roadracers will tackle August 28-30 during the second running of the Red Bull Indianapolis GP.
"Driving into the Speedway for our first school was a great moment for me," said Schwantz, the 1993 500cc world champion.
WHERE: Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Circuit is 2.621 miles (4.218 km), with 16 turns (left turns – 10, right turns – 6). MotoGP race is 28 laps, 250cc race is 26 laps, 125cc race is 23 laps.
WHEN: Sunday, Aug. 30. MotoGP race: 3 p.m. (ET); 250cc race: 1:15 p.m.; 125cc race: Noon. It is the 12th of 17 events this season for MotoGP, the 11th of 16 events this season for 125cc and 250cc.
2008 RACE WINNERS
Crash, the rock band fronted by MotoGP star James Toseland, will perform live Saturday, Aug. 29 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway during the Red Bull Indianapolis GP.
The performance will start at 4:30 p.m. on the 6th Street Stage in the IMS infield. Toseland, from Great Britain, plays keyboards and is a vocalist for the four-man band.
The Red Bull Indianapolis GP on Aug. 28-30 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway offers a dream weekend for motorcycle racing enthusiasts, on and off the track.
A full schedule of events is planned during the second annual MotoGP event at IMS, including more than 11 hours of overall on-track time for the best riders in the world on Practice Day, Friday, Aug. 28, Qualifying Day, Saturday, Aug. 29 and Race Day, Sunday, Aug. 30.
Friday, Aug. 14 marks the 100th anniversary of the first day of motorized racing competition at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. On that date in 1909, a series of motorcycle races took place on the newly-completed 2.5-mile IMS oval.
