When we first wrote about the SKULLY AR-1, our inbox became loaded with emails asking for additional information on the “world’s first augmented reality motorcycle helmet” that features a head-up display, GPS and a rear-view camera.
With that initial response, we knew the SKULLY AR-1 would be popular. And the numbers from SKULLY’s Indiegogo pre-order campaign prove this popularity. When the Indiegogo campaign wrapped up October 9, it was record breaking; pre-order sales had surpassed $2.2 million.
Speaking of the campaign, Skully says “The preorder campaign was a success right out of the gate as the company reached its $250,000 goal in just eight minutes. In 45 hours, sales surpassed $1 million, making it the fastest Indiegogo campaign to reach the $1 million-dollar milestone. The campaign was then extended in September due to global demand, and sales have since surpassed $2.2 million, resulting in the SKULLY campaign being the most successful wearable campaign in Indiegogo history.”
“The campaign has been a tremendous success and has been a true testament to the desire for innovation in safety technology. We look forward to delivering the AR-1 to the SKULLY Nation next year.”
SKULLY says more 1,700 AR-1 helmets were sold to early buyers at special pricing and financing options. The price was $1,399, $100 cheaper than what its current asking price.
A deposit program was also announced, allowing consumers to secure a lid with a $499 deposit followed by a second payment of $949 to be paid when the helmet ships in 2015.
SKULLY is still taking reservations; to pre-order a lid, visit www.skullysystems.com.
