Ride with Malcolm Smith, Larry Roeseler and JN Roberts, Benefit Kids Orphanage
Join motorcycling legends Malcolm Smith, JN Roberts and 13-time Baja 1000 champ, Larry Roeseler for the ride of a lifetime September 13-16, 2012 in celebrating the extraordinary life of Edison Dye, the father of American Motocross in exclusive setting of JN’s 1,400 acre ranch near Helena, Montana.
The event is limited to the first 30 riders, and the proceeds go to a truly worthy cause, the Malcolm Smith Motorsports Foundation, (MalcolmSmithMotorsportsFoundation.org).
Once again Racing For Life (racingforlife.org) has organized this epic event to raise $30,000 to support the education of the children at the El Oasis Orphanage, located in Valle de Trinidad, Baja California.
This four day dual sport day event is open to anyone who loves to ride dirt bikes and wish to join friends and fellow riders celebrate the historic contribution Edison Dye has made to our sport. Experience the thrill of a lifetime riding with JN Roberts, Malcolm Smith and Larry Roeseler for several days in the Rocky Mountains.
This is the third annual “Rocky Mountain Road Trip.” The event will be held at JN’s private 1800 acre ranch, located about 30 minutes from Helena, Montana. The Friday ride on the ranch features nearly 20 miles of single-track riding through beautiful Rocky Mountain forest. The Friday afternoon ride will take us through some of the prettiest single and two-track trails near JN’s ranch.
As in years past, the riders will also join the legends on the Saturday ride in the nearby Helena National Forest , facing more challenging dual-and single track loops. On Sunday morning you will get to ride with Malcolm, Larry and JN for a genuine “On Any Sunday” experience.
13-time Baja Champ Larry Roeseler Joining Malcolm and JN This Year
This year riding great Larry Roeseler will be joining Malcolm and JN, lending his support to the El Oasis children. Larry Roeseler is one of the greatest competitors in the history of off roading, having won the Baja 1000 thirteen times on both motorcycle and 4-wheel vehicles, having won the Baja 500 eleven times on both 2-wheel and 4-wheel vehicles and is a 10-time ISDE Gold medalist. Larry is also an inductee into the American Motorcyclist Association Hall of Fame. You will have the opportunity to ride and bench-race with Larry, Malcolm and JN.
Celebrating the Life and Times of Edison Dye
A special permanent memorial will be unveiled at the Saturday blowout bash in JN’s backyard. This tribute memorial will be permanently set at Camp JN at a special Sunday morning sunrise ceremony. Edison Dye brought motocross as we now know it to America in the 1960s. He was the first person to import the Husqvarna 2-stroke motorcycle to America in 1966, sponsoring Malcolm Smith on his first Husqvarna motorcycle. As they say the rest is history. JN Roberts won a dazzling 27 straight desert races aboard a Husqvarna in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Malcolm and JN won the 2-wheel class of the inaugural Baja 1000, then called the Mexican 1000, in 1967. Larry Roeseler’s first major Baja 1000 victories were aboard a Husqvarna. The roots of Baja racing and motocross can be traced through the pioneering efforts of Edison Dye. Thank you, Edison Dye!
Rocky Mountain Road Trip Now Part of the 2012 AMA Husqvarna National Dual Sport Series
Starting this year, Rocky Mountain Road Trip has been elevated to national status by being an AMA sanctioned Dual Sport event and part of the AMA Husqvarna National Dual Sport Series. The AMA Husqvarna National Dual-Sport Series, presented by FMF, features the country’s best-organized dual-sport rides. Run by AMA-chartered clubs and promoters, the events include miles of challenging trail connected by scenic backcountry roads. Rides span two days or more, with one-day participation optional. The courses, which extend to 100 miles or more each day, are well marked and detailed on provided route sheets. Although non-competitive in nature, the challenging, national-caliber terrain is designed to bring out the best in each rider.
About the Fundraiser
Each rider will be asked to make a $1,000 donation directly to the Malcolm Smith Motorsports Foundation. In return, riders receive a tax deduction receipt. 100% of the proceeds will go directly to the education fund for the Hogar de Ninos El Oasis Children’s Orphanage, located in Valle de Trinidad, Baja California. Last year, the first student, Daniella Hernandez, 23, graduated from college under Malcolm’ program. She earned her teaching credentials from Navajoa University with a minor in psychology. Navajoa University is located in Navajoa, Sonora, Mexico.
Lodging and Meals
This year each rider will also pay a one-time fee of $600. In exchange each rider will share a room at the La Quinta Inn and Suites, have all meals and refreshments provided during his or her stay, enjoy the blow out bash in JN’s back yard, plus receive an event cap, t-shirt and souvenir poster. The weekend will be fully catered. Optional camping on Camp JN is available as well.
About JN’s Ranch
In addition to JN’s 18-mile single-track trail through woods and river crossings, JN also has a 2.5 mile GP-style motocross track. Although this is a working ranch, it is motorcycle friendly… Instead of opening gates, JN has fitted his ranch with ramps to jump over the cow fences. Again joining in the festivities will be JN’s son, Jimmy Roberts and the El Oasis Orphanage Marketing Director, Daniel Ixcot.
