Ride for Kids Raises $142K in Asheville & Ann Arbor on Aug. 262013 Ride for Kids

The 2013 Ride for Kids season has been successful throughout 2013, motorcyclists from all over the states contributing donations to the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, which help combat childhood brain tumors.

On Aug. 25, two Ride for Kids events got underway in Asheville, N.C., and Ann Arbor, Mich. Together, both rides brought in $142,161.

Ride for Kids, Asheville, N.C., Aug. 25

he Asheville Ride for Kids celebrated 20 years on Aug. 25. About 415 participants gathered at the WNC Ag Center in Fletcher to honor brain tumor survivors Brooklyn, Ryleeann, Sarah, Hannah, Drew, Aaron, Katie and Seth.

The Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation’s hometown event had raised $96,827 at ride time, with funds continuing to come in for the next 30 days.

“We’re going to lick this disease, but it’s going to take all of us,” said Dr. Darell Bigner, director of the PBTF Institute at Duke University. “We couldn’t be making all of this progress without you.”

As of ride time, the individuals, motorcycle club/chapter and motorcycle business with the most raised were Robin and Tammy Ferguson ($10,000 each), GWRRA NC-M2 ($30,514) and MR Motorcycle ($32,606).

The event is still collecting donations online at www.rideforkids.org. Fundraisers will receive incentive credit through Sept. 25.

Emory Vaughn won the drawing for a new Honda CBR250 and a Dunlop tire. Kacy Baird won a Bell motorcycle helmet.

Radio hosts Eddie Foxx from 99.9 Kiss Country and Ken Carson from 105.9 The Mountain emceed the event.

Thank you to the dedicated volunteers who organized the event. The 2013 task force leaders were Grover and Ruth Lewis and Pat Harvey.

Ride for Kids, Ann Arbor, Mich., Aug. 25

The 22nd Michigan Ride for Kids attracted more than 200 participants on a cool morning at Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor. By ride time, the group had raised $45,334 for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation.

The event’s Stars included Stacy, Ryan, Andrew, Jessica, Andrea, John, Zach and Ruth.

“I just graduated from college with my master’s degree in social work,” said Star Ruth, a former PBTF scholarship recipient. “I’m so happy to see that the children going through what I went through as a child have the advantage of better and less invasive treatment.”

As of Aug. 25, the individual, motorcycle club/chapter and motorcycle business with the most raised were Michael Loo ($3,315), GWRRA-W2 ($8,873) and Brighton Harley-Davidson ($5,210).

The event is still collecting donations online at www.rideforkids.org. Fundraisers will receive incentive credit through Sept. 25.

Keith Craig won the drawing for a new Honda CBR250R and Steven Elliot won a Bell motorcycle helmet. Dale Pozzi won a Tour Master gift card.
