It may seem naive to assume truth in advertising, but MV Agusta’s description of its bikes as “contemporary motorcycle art” can be regarded as reliable: Its F4 1000 Tamburini—named for Massimo Tamburini, the designer of watershed sportbikes such as the Ducati 916—might be the most technologically advanced motorcycle available today.
Though the Tamburini boasts race-inspired features like a rear Sachs Racing shock, an Ohlins steering damper, and carbon fiber bodywork and intake ducts, the true soul of this limited edition bike is its ingenious engine.
The Tamburini’s 998cc, radial valve engine features variable velocity stacks, a technology derived from Formula 1 that maximizes torque throughout the rev range by varying the lengths of two sets of air intake trumpets via a pneumatic cylinder.
Its unusually flexible torque curve produces more power at lower rpm than the F4 1000′s original powerplant. Only 300 examples of the $42,695 Tamburini have been built in a limited production run.
