2012 International Road Racing
Last month, Millsport Racing confirmed its return to International Road Racing for 2012, with plans to compete in the Isle of Man TT, North West 200, Southern 100 and the Ulster Grand Prix.
But this news was heightened due to Millsport’s choice of machine – the all-new Ducati 1199 Panigale.
And on Tuesday, Millsport Racing confirmed who will pilot the 2012 Ducati 1199 Panigale during the Isle of Man TT and other road races- Steve Mercer.
The 29-year old of Kent, UK, will compete in the Dainese Superbike, Pokerstars Senior TT and Royal London 360 Superstock races at the 2012 IOMTT. Besides some testing in March, Mercer has plans to compete in the opening rounds of the British Superstock Championship to prep for International Road Race series.
IOMTT reports that Mercer debuted on the Mountain course in 2009 and has recorded best finishes of 12th and 16th in the Dainese Superbike and Royal London 360 Superstock races respectively in 2011.
Race times in both the six and four lap races were over an average speed of 120mph and his fastest TT lap, set in the 2010 Dainese Superbike race, is 124.658mph.
Patrick Murray (Millsport Racing Ducati Team Boss) says: "Millsport Racing Ducati are delighted to have Steve on board our 1199 Panigales for the 2012 season. Now we are looking forward to getting on the track as early as possible in the New Year to begin a testing programme in preparation for the season ahead."
Steve Mercer (Millsport Racing Ducati 1199 Panigale) says: "I’m really looking forward to riding the new Ducati 1199 Panigale for Millsport Racing next year and I think it will be a serious machine on both roads and Circuits. 2012 can’t come soon enough."
Paul Phillips (Isle of Man Government TT and Motorsport Development Manager) says: "Millsport Racing is an excellent team and they are a great fit with Steve Mercer who is one of the most exciting new riders to compete on the Mountain Course in recent years. I’m sure that they will enjoy a successful relationship and we look forward to seeing them on the Isle of Man in 2012."Google+
