Harley-Davidson is about to make history in Hollywood once again, but this time in a truly modern and quiet way.
The Motor Company, along with Marvel Studios, confirmed Friday during the San Diego Comic-Con that Project LiveWire – Harley’s first-ever electric motorcycle – will appear in the movie “Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron,” which hits theaters May 1, 2015.
Project LiveWire will be piloted by Natasha Romanoff (a.k.a. Black Widow), who will be played by Hollywood Hottie Scarlett Johansson. During the film, Johansson will ride the electric Harley during a scene with Captain America.
And Captain America and Harley-Davidson are no strangers; the two have been united since 1941 when Captain America boomeranged himself into pop culture during the midst of World War II. The latest relationship was during “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” when the star – played by Chris Evans – piloted a Street 750 in the film that debuted in November.
“Our partnership with Marvel continues to provide thrilling platforms to showcase our latest innovations to existing and new fans of the brand,” said Dino Bernacchi, Director of U.S. Marketing at Harley-Davidson Motor Company. “Not one, but two bikes will be featured in Avengers: Age of Ultron – Project LiveWire and the all-new Street 750, which is now available at Harley-Davidson dealerships.”
Harley-Davidson unveiled Project LiveWire in June. arley officials say LiveWire does not lack performance; the electric can reach speeds over 90 mph, and can reach 60 mph in under four seconds. As for distance, it’s not too far for now – 55 in economy mode, just over 30 in performance mode. And charging time is 3.5 hours.
Project LiveWire is currently on a demo tour, and Harley’s first electric motorcycle will only come to fruition based on customer feedback during the tour.
For those in San Diego, the bike will be available for demo at the San Diego Harley-Davidson dealership Friday and Saturday, July 25-26.
