The reigning AMA SuperBike Champion Josh Herrin further progressed Thursday during the final day of preseason Moto2 testing at Valencia.

The Caterham Moto Racing pilot posted a best time of 1:36.566, which was a half-second quicker than his Wednesday time. The American finished his first official preseason test in 18th place, 1.411 seconds off the top time set by Marc VDS Racing’s Esteve Rabat.

The Suter rider, along with his teammate Johann Zarco, who finished 13th fastest, 1.067 seconds behind Rabat, were able to further adapt to the Moto2 machine.

The team reports that as a result they completed the three day test schedule feeling pleased with their progress and ready for Jerez next week.

Josh Herrin, Caterham Racing, says “Today we made a lot of changes to the position I am in on the bike as well as some clutch settings. I was able to achieve my goal which was to get into the 1:36s.

“I am excited to go to Jerez because we have already tested there so we will be able to focus more on bike set up and lap times.”

Johan Stigefelt, Caterham Team Manager, says “I am happy to end this first official test having learned a lot and gained enough information to hopefully send us in the right direction. Right now we don’t need to be too focussed on where we are in the standings, although it is important, we must work systematically and do a good job to improve the bike for our riders first.

“At the moment we are not at the maximum, we still have more to give and we will continue to work on this in Jerez. We are a new team, this is our first year in Moto2 and so we must be patient. Every time we are out there we are learning, and these tests are so important for that.

“To come here and have done this in such a short time, to see all the guys so motivated is a privilege. I just want to thank the team, the riders and everyone from Caterham back at Leafield who have supported us in getting here and I hope that we can reward them this year with good results.”
