With a centenary of road racing on the Isle of Man TT Mountain Course fast approaching in 2011, it will not be long before we are celebrating a 100+ years of the world’s most heroic motorcycle TT racing.
Last year John McGuinness moved ahead of the legendary Mike Hailwood’s win record when he recorded his 15th Isle of Man TT win in the Superbike Race. With 3 overall Superbike wins in the last four races and five wins in two years, McGuinness is at the top of the current pure road race order.
A 16th Isle TT motorcycle-racing win seemed on the cards as John dominated the Senior race last year. Hopes were dashed for McGuinness when his chain broke loose on the circuit, which ended his chances.
There was some solace as McGuinness smashed another TT road race record, astride his Honda CBR1000RR, raising the outright lap record to a staggering 131.578 mph average.
Below are the racing records for the Isle of Man prior to the start of the 2010 racing action. Interestingly enough, and part in thanks to John, Honda currently owns 10 of the 11 outright lap records.
Suzuki is the only other motorcycle manufacturer represented in this list at 126.549 mph in the Junior TT Supersport class with Bruce Anstey aboard the GSX-R600.
