Honda Updates Software on its “Riding Trainer”

Honda reported Wednesday that it has updated the software for its “Riding Trainer,” which was created to increase motorcycle safety. Honda unveiled the “Riding Trainer” in late 2005, an apparatus that stimulates the feeling of a motorcycle through an exercise-looking device and a computer.

Honda reports the new software is designed to further advance the ability to foresee and predict the dangers encountered in motorcycle riding, by providing even more realistic situations and conditions.

Honda says: “A major enhancement in this update is the adoption of exteriors of actual 15 motorcycle models and the faithfully recreated meter display and engine sound of each model. A variety of the models includes small scooters such as the PCX, midsize sports models such as the CBR250R, and large sports models such as the CB1100 and VFR1200F.

“They are simulated to imitate various use in numerous countries around the world. Additional new features include a function for experiencing advanced braking systems such as the Combined Brake System (CBS), a front- and rear-wheel combination brake system, and Combined ABS, which brings together the CBS and the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS). Honda plans to roll out the software update at motorcycle dealers with existing installations of the Riding Trainer.”

The Riding Trainer is offered at dealers across Europe and Japan, currently available in 53 countries. Though its not available in the US, Honda says it’s aiming to expand sales in other areas.
