Dani Pedrosa Extends Repsol
Since Dani Pedrosa joined World Championship racing in 2001 (former 125cc class), he has competed under only one manufacturer – Honda.
The Spaniard, now 26-years old, took three consecutive titles with the Japanese manufacturer from 2003-2005 (2003 125cc, 2004-2005 250cc). He then joined MotoGP in 2006, earning Rookie of the Year. Through 2013, he would finish third or better in points six times.
Though he has never won a premier-class title, he has always been a force aboard the Repsol Honda prototype. Throughout the past year, speculation began on Pedrosa losing his factory ride. But all rumors were silenced Wednesday when Honda Racing Corporation confirmed it had extended Pedrosa’s contract.
Pedrosa will continue competing with the factory Honda squad through 2016, riding alongside the MotoGP Champion Marc Marquez, who extended his contract with HRC in May.
After eight of 18 rounds in 2014 MotoGP, Pedrosa has finished on the podium six times. He is currently third in the point standings, 72 points behind his teammate Marquez, the reigning MotoGP Champion.
“I’m very happy to be able to announce my renewal with the Repsol Honda Team, and grateful to Honda for the trust they have shown in me for a further two years,” Pedrosa says.
“It’s the best way for me to continue in my racing career, together with the company I was with in my very first race. I am very excited to give my 100% and continue to work together with everyone at Honda Racing Corporation.”
