Motorcycle Recall
BMW Motorrad is recalling certain model year (2005 through 2007) R 1200 GS Adventure motorcycles manufactured between December 7, 2005, through September 26, 2007.
The recall involves the front bolts of the fuel tank, which in some cases, over time, can work loose, allowing the bolts to come into contact with the front fork leg if the handlebars are turned significantly.
This could potentially limit the range of motion of the handlebars and front forks, which in turn could affect the handling and maneuverability of the motorcycle, increasing the risk of a crash.
BMW’s GS machine, first introduced in 1980 and celebrating a landmark 30-year anniversary this year, represents the company’s most successful motorcycle, making up an estimated 40% of the Munich-based manufacturer’s motorcycle sales. The highly popular GS 1200 utilizes BMW’s 2-cylinder Boxer engine, which is renowned for its reliability and longevity.
The manufacturer has not officially provided NHTSA with a remedy plan or a notification schedule for remedying the problem.
