July 2013 BMW Motorrad USA Sales Report
There was no doubting how successful BMW’s revamped R1200GS would be for 2013 sales. The semi-water cooled Boxer twin was an immediate hit, and helped push the first six months of worldwide BMW Motorrad sales to a new high.
And once again the 2013 R1200GS is helping BMW Motorrad achieve positive sales number; BMW attributes the machine for yet another huge stateside monthly sales increase.
BMW Motorrad USA reports that in July, a total of 1,346 motorcycles and maxi-scooters were sold compared to 1,027 sold in July 2012. This represents a 31.1-percent increase in sales from July 2013 compared to July 2012. These positive numbers also helped the Bavarian motorcycle manufacturer ascend annual growth rate to more than 21 percent over last year in an industry that declined over 5 percent through June.
Out of the 1,346 motorcycles and maxi-scooters sold, 201 were R1200GS motorcycles. This contributed to the increase in R-series, which was up 47 percent with a total of 506 R Boxer motorcycles sold in July 2013 compared to 344 in July 2012.
Next was the K series. BMW says the six-cylinder K 1600 GT sport-tourer was up 37 percent, and luxury-touring K 1600 GTL up 34 percent; these numbers helped drive a 27 percent increase in K-Series models with 234 units in July 2013 compared to 184 units in July 2012.
BMW reports that positive customer reaction to the recently launched F 800 GT and F 800 GS Adventure also drove increases in F-Series volumes with sales up 126 percent compared to July 2012 with 319 units compared to 141 a year ago while demand for the C 650 GT maxi-scooter continues to outstrip supply.
