Sepang MotoGP Test
At the second official pre-season test of 2011 MotoGP next week, the Sepang International Circuit will host a donation campaign that helps the recent flood victims in Malaysia.
The donation campaign, titled "RM2 or More," will take place Feb. 22-24 at the MotoGP Sepang test, and will support the Malaysian government’s attempt to raise funds for the flood victims.
Fans, circuit staff and contractors, among others, attending the Sepang MotoGP test sessions will be encouraged to make a small donation to RM2. These funds will be immediately channeled to Malaysia’s government as they help aid thousands of people who have been evacuated from Johor.
Dato Ahmad Razlan Ahmad Razali (Sepang Circuit CEO) says: "As all of us know, the effects of the flood this time round were massive. It was the worst flood ever to hit Johor. Anybody who passes through the gates during the MotoGP Test including circuit staff, contractors and suppliers are encouraged to drop a minimum donation of RM2 (just under €0.50) which will be channeled to the flood relief funds.
"We had a good turnout at the first Test earlier this month including foreign fans, and I am hoping for more fans to turn up to the circuit for the second Test. On top of catching their idols in action, they can also show their compassion for the flood victims."
During the floods which occurred in early February, over 46,000 residents were forced from their homes in Johor, Pahang, Malacca and Negri Sembilan in Malysia, and three were killed. These floods occurred only three months after Kedah was hit by Mother Nature; the Kedah floods displaced about 40,000 families.
During the first MotoGP tests of 2011 at Sepang, the Italian Marco Simoncelli was quickest, posting a 2:00.757 on the second of 42 laps, a time that beat Valentino Rossi’s 2009 best lap at Sepang in 2009. Simoncelli’s lap is now the fastest motorcycle lap ever recorded at Sepang.
Second fastest of the combined three-day test was Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa, with teammate Casey Stoner third quickest.
