During the off season, many of MotoGP’s fastest riders participate in other forms of racing, whether that’s two wheels of four.

Nine-time World Champions Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) frequents the Monza Rally Show every winter, and two-time MotoGP Champion Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda) loves to flat track at events like the Superprestigio, which the reigning GP Champ won last week.

Another MotoGP Champion who participates in other racing forms is Rossi’s teammate, Jorge Lorenzo. And this weekend the Spaniard debuted behind the #99 Monster-backed Ferrari – a 458 GT3 Challenge EVO – at the Gulf 12 Hours at Abu Dhabi Yas Marina circuit.

Lorenzo, along with teammates Liam Talbot, Marco Zanuttini and Jacques Duyver, helped Kessel Racing earn the win in the “Gentleman” class. This class doesn’t have many competitors, but it’s still hard to earn the win.

More impressively, the team completed 261 laps, and finished 13th overall out of 23 teams. Lorenzo took 18th out of 23 in individual rider standings. The two-time MotoGP Champion did crash with a half-hour remaining, but Kessel Team’s lead was large enough to take the Gentleman class win.

“It was an amazing experience and we even won in our category,” Lorenzo said.

Taking the overall win was AF Corse team’s Michele Rugolo, who completed 315 laps while also driving a Ferarri 458 GT3 Challenge EVO.
