2014 V-Strom 1000 MSRP
For the first time since its introduction in 2002, Suzuki has completely revamped its signature adventure-touring motorcycle, the V-Strom 1000.
The bike received some minor updates in 2007, but structurally nothing changed. For 2014, though, the bike is totally new; the V-Strom 1000 arrives with a larger 1037cc engine, ABS, fully-adjustable 43mm KYB headlights, styling inspired by the 1988 DR750S, and, for the first time ever on a Suzuki, traction control, among other things.
The new V-Strom impressed us when Suzuki unveiled it at AIMExpo in Florida last month, but it would all come down to pricing. Would this new bike be offered low enough to really have an impact on the adventure-touring market?
Suzuki has finally released U.S. pricing, and we think it will have an impact. The 2014 V-Strom 1000 is offered at a pocket-book friendly price of $12,699 for the base model, and $13,999 for the Adventure model, which features 55 liters of lockable, side-bag storage, a skid plat, hand guards, touring windshield and accessories bars.
The bike is well below the price of some of its base-model competitors, including the BMW R1200GS ($15,800), the Triumph Tiger Explorer ($15,699), the Yamaha Super Tenere ($14,790), and the Ducati Multistrada ($16,995).
The 2014 V-Strom 1000 will undoubtedly cater to on-road touring with its comfortable, upright ergonomics found on adventure-styled bikes, and its bulletproof 90-degree V-Twin. But a few things will prevent it from being a super-capable off-road machine, including non-switchable ABS and mag wheels.
